David Thorpe at Camden Arts Centre | BBC Collective

EXCERPT OF BBC COLLECTIVE REVIEW, 17 MAY 2007

"Whether The Defeated Life Restored creates the ultimate utopian solution is up to you, but what David Thorpe’s installation does createis a highly crafted “autonomous state” where self-sufficiency reigns for the enhancement of the individual. As its title suggests, there is a glimmer of hope in our ever-disappointing world.

Specifically commissioned for Gallery 3 at Camden Arts Centre, you are met by an intriguing wooden screen with earthy hues of green and blue glass, standing resolutely in all its domestic glory as triumphant conqueror over the gallery space. What lies within is discovered through two gaps in the encasement’s wall. Six watercolours are symmetrically hung around the farthest end of the screen, and centrally positioned are three sculptural pylon towers."
