Since 1895 art aficionados have embarked on an important pilgrimage to the watery city of Venice to experience the most prestigious event in the art calendar. Taking place every 2 years, selected artists have the honoured task of representing their country at La Biennale di Venezia. Mainly located in the splendid Giardini di Castello, the Biennale in recent years has spread to the nearby Venetian shipyards, the Arsenale, lavish Palazzo's, alternative locations and attracted a growing number of collateral events. Art historian and critic Bice Curiger has been appointed this years Director and will curate the 54th International Art Exhibition, ILLUMInations, making Venice your destination of choice come this summer.
