Converse/Dazed Emerging Artist Award 2011
For the second year I've curated the Converse/Dazed Emerging Artists Award exhibition, which will be opening just ahead of Frieze London. The show of new works created by each of this year's shortlisted artists: Gabriele Beverage, Ellie Harrison, Bruce Ingram, Samuel Levack and Jennifer Lewandowski and Richard Parry is presented at an off-site location on Heneage Street in London's east end.
Open to all UK-based artists under 35, the Converse/Dazed Emerging Artists Award with The Whitechapel Gallery, now in its second year, is an invaluable platform for emerging artists of all disciplines. Offering a prize of £6,000, the award supports the vibrancy of the UK's creative community and showcases artists who are not represented by a gallery.
This year's award was judged by an esteemed panel of judges, Kirsty Ogg of the Whitechapel Gallery, artist Eva Rothschild, gallerist Sadie Coles, gallery director Darren Flook, curator Paul Pieroni and Dazed & Confused’s visual arts editor Francesca Gavin.
Listen to the judges and artists talk about the prize below.
Ricard Parry was announced as the winner at the Whitechapel Gallery on Saturday 15 October 2011.
